The game starts with four counters placed in the centre of the board, two of each colour, forming a diagonal pattern. Taking it in turns, each player places a counter of their own colour on the board so that it captures one or more of their opponent's pieces between two of their own pieces in the same row, column or diagonal. The captured counters are flipped over and change colour. The game ends when the board is full and no player can make a legal move.
